In short. Student attendance is marked per section, per day, by the teacher assigned to it. Staff attendance is recorded separately. Both feed the dashboard and are visible to the people they concern.
Marking student attendance
A teacher opens Attendance on their portal, picks the section and the date, and marks the register. Administrators and staff with permission can do the same from Attendance › Student Attendance.
For a register to exist at all, the section must have a teacher assigned to it through Subject Assignments. If a teacher says a class is missing, that is the first thing to check.
Who can see the register
| Role | Sees |
|---|---|
| Administrator | Every register in the school |
| Teacher | The sections assigned to them |
| Staff | Registers, read only, and can mark attendance |
| Student | Their own attendance history |
| Parent | The attendance of their own children only |
Staff attendance
Record staff presence under Attendance › Staff Attendance. It is deliberately separate from the student register: different people mark it, and it feeds the Absent staff count in the dashboard's Needs attention panel.
Absence notifications
Marking a student absent can notify their parents, so families hear about it the same day rather than at the end of term. Parents see the same information on their own portal under Attendance.
Reporting
The dashboard shows today's attendance as two figures — the proportion of students present and the proportion of staff present. Longer-run attendance analysis lives in Advanced Reports, which is available on plans that include it.
Attendance is recorded against the current term. If registers appear to be missing after a term change, check which term is flagged as current under Academic › Terms.
